We need a cold snap!

We need a cold snap!

Looking through some magazines on the weekend, I saw photos of folks with sweaters and sweatshirts on sitting outside dining amid fall color. I want to sit outside and enjoy fall color and sweatshirt weather, too! Our mornings are pleasant these days but afternoons of 90 degrees do not conjure up visions of sweatshirts. I want to cook up a pot roast with carrots, potatoes, and onions that can cook slowly in an afternoon while it fills the house with a tantalizing aroma. For me, the weather needs to be cooler for this treat to taste just right. And I...

Pumpkins

Fall is in full swing and the coffee stops have been pushing Pumpkin Spiced Latte since the end of August. Do you eat pumpkin? I’m not talking about those little orange candy pumpkins that are sold with candy corn; I'm talking about the orange fleshed large members of the squash family that can be carved into jack-o-lanterns. I love pumpkin everything…pumpkin pies of any kind, pumpkin breads, pumpkin cookies, pumpkin pancakes and waffles, and my very favorite, pumpkin soup. Time to make your Christmas list?

Do you realize that it is only 3 months until Christmas?  That thought almost sends shivers down my spine. I love Christmas but I despise being stressed during my favorite season. That means it is time to start making that list and checking it twice so as not to miss anyone or anything important for December. Shopping has always caused me stress, mainly because I am a person that does not like to shop. My work around is to try to shop for Christmas all year long whenever I see something, I buy it. Problem is, I often forget where...

We Love Fall!

We Love Fall!

When do you decorate for fall? In our lives, we decorate for Halloween on September 1st. I pull down the tubs and carefully lift out the ears of dried corn, paper mâché pumpkins, scarecrows. Jack o lanterns, bats, and ghosts interspersed with a witch or two flying on broomsticks. Then there is the cauldron that holds the candy corn that makes its appearance once a year. This often prompts discussions of who actually eats candy corn, either you like it or you hate it…there seems to be no middle ground. At Fredericksburg Farms, fall themed treats start appearing in our...
