I am somewhat of a history buff anyway, but February 19, 2025 marks the 80th anniversary of the start of one of the fiercest battles of WWII in the South Pacific on the island of Iwo Jima. My father was there as a 19-year-old radio operator on a troop transport ship. Were my father alive today he would be 99. My dad didn’t talk much about his war experiences other than to say that he was one of the lucky ones. “I came home,” was his usual answer when asked something specific. There was a whole generation of young men and some young women that were basically just kids when they were sent out to fight a war that could have had a far different outcome except for the turn of a few events. In my business we employ a number of young people in their 20’s and I am so glad that none of them are living lives that involve a daily life or death struggle. I am grateful for the young people back in the 1940s who stepped up to do what was needed, so that the young people today can be free to do a day’s work and after work head out to do something fun. Thank you to all those who made that choice possible.
