“School’s out, school’s out!” I can still hear the shouts of my friends and me as we ran out of Olsen Park Elementary on the last day of school. Summer vacation lay stretched out before us and it beckoned with endless possibilities. Long lazy days of playing outside with friends from morning until we were called in for lunch and supper, and sometimes going back out and playing after supper until dark. Riding bikes, running through a sprinkler, eating lunch in our treehouse all the while thinking we were hidden from the world. Each day full of fun that sent us home happy, tired and incredibly dirty. Into a bath, pajamas, and bed in 15 minutes and falling asleep listening to the wind blowing the curtains against the open window. What does your summer look like? Is it full of things that will bring you joy? Or is it just full of things? I choose joy.
