Snow Day
Fredericksburg Farms

Remember “Snow Days” back from childhood? Maybe you lived somewhere where it never snowed so this surprise holiday from school may not have been known to you. Some places have “Hurricane Emergency Days” or “Wildfire Emergency Days” and these come with impending danger and possible loss of life and property and are inherently scary. A “Snow Day” on the other hand, was never dreaded by kids. No school, and a day to play outside making snow forts and having snowball fights with your neighborhood friends. We had a “Snow Day” yesterday here at Fredericksburg Farms. Everyone stayed home and the...
Stock Show Season
Fredericksburg Farms

January in Texas means the beginning of Stock Show Season! All across the state young people who are members of FFA and 4-H are readying their entries. These entries range from animals such as hogs, lambs, goats, cattle, rabbits, and chickens, to farm utility vehicles like trailers entered in the Ag-Mechanics division. Stock Show and we are buyers at the auction afterwards. My granddaughter won 13th place with her pen...

Fredericksburg Farms

Today marks the beginning of a bright shiny new year…2025…and the end year of the first quarter of the 21st century. I must be getting really old because I remember all of the panic over Y2K, wondering if the business computer systems of the world would crash. Now, twenty-five years into this century we are even more dependent on computer systems, and now our new worries are AI and Crypto currency. Old worries are replaced by new worries every single day. Pick your worry. Make it something important, make people important, rather than things. In the last year after losing...
Christmas Day
Fredericksburg Farms

Today is the first Christmas Day in 44 years that I won’t have my husband bringing me coffee, and building a fire in the fireplace in the den as I turn on the Christmas tree lights and put out special gifts for family to find as they come running in. Today I will make my own coffee, start a fire in the fireplace, and turn on the Christmas tree lights. I will sit with my coffee looking at the fire and the Christmas tree, soaking up the memories of those many Christmases past spent with my sweetheart and soulmate who...
